New page

A state of extreme violent psychosis, and the ultimate fate of many of those who suffer from the curse of voidtouch, i.e. those who have come in contact with Versa.

A person in frenzy spends the rest of their short life attempting to kill everyone around them.

If a person does not immediately frenzy upon coming into contact with Versa, they become voidtouched, which allows them to cast magic. However, they are forever at risk of entering frenzy later. This is the reason why voidtouched people live controlled lives in most nations.

There is no cure to frenzy. Once a person enters frenzy, they can never be recovered.

Origin of frenzy according to St. Lucia's revelation
According to the saint, frenzy is caused by the human soul being forcefully ripped from its host due to Versa's influence. The body, without the guidance of the soul, is forced to carry out Versa's will to destroy humanity.

The Visitor theory
Visitor Theory is currently the leading theory to explain frenzy among Chevell researchers.

This theory is heretical according to the Church, because according to their doctrine, magic originates from the evil goddess Versa who uses it as a weapon to corrupt humanity.

According to visitor theory, when someone (the caster) uses magic, they use their mind to manifest things from the outsider world into Novrand.

Every time this happens, there is a chance that the thing will be accompanied by a visitor.

A visitor is a non-physical sentient entity from the outsider world that wants to remain in their own world. When they are pulled into our world, they normally immediately return to their own world.

However, sometimes something goes wrong and the visitor becomes trapped in the mind of the caster who "summoned" them. To free themselves, the visitor thrashes about inside the mind of the caster, attempting to destroy the walls of their prison.

This shatters the mind of the caster, causing extreme and violent psychosis within seconds.

Avoiding frenzy, according to Visitor theory
# Don't use magic; if you don't use magic, there is no chance of accidentally summoning a visitor into your mind
# Meditate; this keeps your mind organized and serene and removes "mental blocks". This makes it easier for a visitor to leave your mind.
# Do not use same magic spell repeatedly; if you use the same magic spell repeatedly, there is a chance that you'll keep summoning the same visitor multiple times, causing them to panic. This also leads to frenzy, via the same mechanism

There is some evidence that frenzy avoidance methods 1 and 2 work, but it's not fully confirmed. There is currently no evidence of method 3 working.
